Kimball's Castle is located on 24 acre tract on Locke's Hill in Gilford, N.H. The ground drops away on three sides of the property, creating a spectacular 300 degree vista of the Lakes Region and the White Mountains. Until the 2003 tree clearing project, most of the vista was obscured by foliage. Since the Castle is such a fascinating landmark, the Mt. Washington excursion ship is now able to point it out as part of its travelogue for the first time in MANY years.
The property borders N.H. Route 11, a main east-west highway connecting the Seacoast with the Lakes Region and Vermont. Two sides of the site abut the Locke's Hill Nature Preserve, a 260-acre woodland conservation area with hiking and cross-country ski trails. One side of the site borders a residential neighborhood. Close-by to the property is the Gilford Town Beach, a public dock, several large marinas, the Laconia Airport, and a golf course.
Kimball's Castle is close to several important sites that bring many tourists into the area - most notable are Weirs Beach, Meadowbrook Farms Musical Arts Center, New Hampshire International Speedway and the Gunstock Recreation Area. Weirs beach is a fantastic destination for families vacationing in NH. It is also home to the annual Laconia Bike week which has been held every year since 1924. Meadowbrook Farms is the regions only major concert venue attracting top entertainers to the lakes region throughout the summer. The Speedway, which seats 90,000, now has an Indy Car, two Winston Cup, and Busch Grand National races, and major events during the other warm weather weekends. The Gunstock Recreation Area is now the second busiest ski area in New Hampshire. Weirs beach is 10 minutes from the Castle, Meadowbrook Farms is 5 minutes, Laconia Airport is 5 minutes, Gunstock is ten and the New Hampshire International Speedway is twenty minutes away.
The sixty-five store Lakes Region Outlet Mall is only twenty minutes away. The mall with its draw of bargain prices and no sales tax is a big draw for tourists.
